Cultivation

Quality in peony cultivation

Through careful cultivation, we produce high-quality peony flowers and peony cuttings. When peony cuttings are planted for flower production, the flowers are removed during the first two years. The first flower harvest takes place in the third year.

By carefully managing the plants during their first years, strong roots can develop in the soil, contributing to good flower quality. We also leave enough stems on the plant to ensure that it can produce strong flowers the following year.

Extending the peony growing season

We spread our peony production throughout the season and grow different varieties. This allows us to harvest peony flowers both early and later in the season.

When harvesting, we cut the flowers at the right stage of maturity: the point at which we know they will open properly. We also aim for a consistent level of maturity within each batch, allowing us to provide a consistent quality of flowers.

Selecting peony varieties

When selecting peony varieties, we look at characteristics that are important to both growers and consumers. These include good growth of the cutting, stem quality, flower opening and vase life.
